Job Description

Position Title: Pre-Sales Engineer- Ciena

Location: This will be located in the Downers Grove, IL Office

Position Description:

The Westcon Sales Engineer (SE) is a customer-focused technical sales professional who provides high level pre-sales technical support and guidance to Westcon Account Managers and the value added Reseller (VAR) community. The SE collaborates with the Vendor, Product Management, and the VAR to recommend and to develop appropriate customer solutions. The SE is a trusted advisor who acts in a consultative fashion and is engaged as an expert in his/her field by the account team, VAR, and their customers in developing solutions. The SE will be the primary support resource for new products and offers for Ciena.

Key Responsibilities:
* Provide pre-sales assistance for sales opportunities to VAR partners on Ciena products and solutions.
* Assist with identifying and researching technical requirements for product and service opportunities.
* Provide pre-sales feature/functionality support on Ciena offers for VARs and Westcon associates.
* Deliver effective technical presentations to technical and non-technical audiences.
* Focus on technical business development with Product Manager and Vendor to support the VAR community.
* Design optimum Ciena solutions and effectively present their benefits to external VAR customers
* Provide Product Management and Ciena with feedback from VARs and end-customers on Ciena solutions.
* Assist VARs in the design and integration of Ciena products and solutions.
* Complete Ciena Certification requirements.
* Provide VAR/Customer Proof of Concept trial support.
* Perform product demonstrations and train VARs on how to perform demonstrations.
* Deliver VAR /Customer technical sales training
* Attend Vendor/VAR Events.
* Assist in technical marketing development.
* Understand and be conversant about Ciena competitors, their solutions, strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats.

Education, Experience & Skills Required:

* Bachelor of Science in Information Technology or Computer Science or equivalent work experience preferred
* 3 plus years pre-sales experience in Unified Communications and Collaboration
* Some knowledge in DWDM, Ethernet, Storage Networking (Fibre Channel, FICON) SONET/SDH, Software Defined Networking, Network Functions Virtualization, IP/MPLS, Encryption, WAN Optimization, Firewall, Virtual Routing and Virtualization
* Exceptional written and oral communication skills. This role requires an ability to understand and articulate both the business benefits (value proposition) and technical advantages of Ciena products and solutions.
* Excellent knowledge of unified communications and collaboration technologies. Previous experience with Ciena products and solutions is desired.
* Strong analytical skills in assessing customer technical environments and needs.
* Ability to travel about 25% of the time.
* Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently.
The SE will need to demonstrate strong interpersonal and leadership skills in working with Westcon associates, the vendor, VARs, and end customers. Effective collaboration with VARs, Westcon associates, and the vendor is required to instill confidence in customers and associates that the SE is able to resolve their issues and meet their needs. Strong problem-solving skills are required to design and to deliver optimum customer solutions. The SE will need to demonstrate excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal, and to display a positive can-do approach when dealing with issues.
